Hearing changes can affect conversations, work, school, and everyday routines. ENT Carolina offers audiology and hearing services for adults and children in Shelby, Belmont, and Gastonia, North Carolina.
Our licensed audiologists test hearing, explain the results in plain language, and recommend next steps based on what they find. Care may include a hearing evaluation, hearing aid consultation and fitting, tinnitus evaluation, or balance testing.
ENT Carolina’s audiologists test hearing, diagnose hearing loss, fit and program hearing aids, and evaluate certain balance concerns. Because they work alongside our ear, nose, and throat physicians, patients can move into medical evaluation when their symptoms point to an ear condition.
You may want to schedule a hearing evaluation if you or your child notices:
Sudden hearing loss should be evaluated promptly. Contact ENT Carolina if your hearing changes suddenly in one or both ears.
At your appointment, your audiologist will ask what you have noticed, when it happens, and where hearing is most difficult. Your symptoms, age, and medical history will help determine which tests are appropriate.
A hearing test shows whether hearing loss is present and how severe it is. It may include listening for tones, repeating words, and checking how the middle ear works. The testing plan depends on the patient’s age, symptoms, and medical history.
ENT Carolina offers adult and pediatric audiometric (hearing) testing. Auditory brainstem response testing may also be used when appropriate. Your audiologist will walk you through the results and explain whether you need monitoring, medical care, hearing technology, or another next step.
Hearing loss can occur when something prevents sound from moving efficiently through the outer or middle ear. It can also result from damage to the inner ear or auditory nerve. Some people have a combination of both types. Depending on the cause, treatment may involve medical or surgical care, hearing aids, or another hearing device. Your audiologist will explain the type and severity of your hearing loss and recommend the appropriate next step.

Tinnitus and balance symptoms can also be part of an audiology visit. Based on your symptoms and results, your audiologist may recommend follow-up with an ENT physician.
If hearing aids are a good fit, your audiologist will help you compare options based on your hearing needs, routine, comfort, and budget. ENT Carolina provides hearing aid consultations, fittings, programming, and follow-up support.
